I apologize for the quality of the photos.  I'm working with a very old camera in our classroom.  However, we wanted to share these two photos that show our caterpillars inside their chrysallis.  We have been waiting and watching to observe the changes taking place.  We hope that one day soon, our butterflies will emerge!
Bean Plant Experiment Update

Our bean plant has continued to grow in the classroom windowsill.  It produced blossoms and beans already, and the students have been very excited to watch it grow.  The plant that we left in Mrs. Greco's cupboard never did sprout or grow.  The students had predicted this outcome through our discussions about the requirements of plants.
Student Led Inquiry

Our Kindergarten Butterfly Garden Planning Board

We are so proud of our class for their leadership and learning on our recent butterfly inquiry.  The inquiry grew from our study of living things, and a focus on caterpillars and butterflies.  We became very interested in the life cycle of caterpillars and butterflies, and we were very fortunate to have been given some caterpillars to observe.  As we learned more about caterpillars and butterflies, the students expressed interest in creating a butterfly garden.  We created a plan, a what comes next? chart and designs for the garden.  The student work is displayed on a bulletin board in our classroom.  We are excited to announce that our butterfly garden has been planted!  More photos will follow soon...

Caterpillars and Butterflies!

We are so excited to have visitors living in our classroom!  We have caterpillars living with us,
and we have been learning about the life cycle of the caterpillar.

We have been learning important talk moves to use when discussing ideas.  One of the things we have been learning about is agree or disagree.  We created a tally chart to share our ideas on whether or not our caterpillars will change into butterflies.
Our students created a plan for beginning a Kindergarten butterfly garden.  We gave them the markers, and we LOVE what they created together.  We look forward to bringing you updates on the garden in the weeks ahead!

Ramps Ramps and More Ramps

Our current science inquiry - all about ramps.  We want to thank everyone for donating the materials needed for our ramp inquiry.  The students are very excited to begin building and creating. The challenge is to make the cars, balls or marbles move without touching the items.  We are hearing lots of great conversations and problem solving while students interact with the materials.

Our New Sight Words

We have added something new to our morning circle time.  Each morning, one student is selected to reach in the popcorn bucket to select the word of the day.  The new word is posted in the cubby area during the day.  Each child needs to read the word at the end of the day as their ticket into the going home line up.  We are excited to be adding words to our word wall, and increasing our bank of sight words for reading and writing.
