Plein Air Art

In a recent post, we showcased photos of our students engaged in Plein Air Art.  They LOVED painting outside in the school yard.  We currently have our art work on display outside of our classroom.

Plein Air Art

On a recent beautiful fall day, we loaded up our wagon with our art supplies.  We took our young artists and our materials out to be "in nature" while we were inspired to paint fall.  It was an amazing experience - so awesome to see our entire class focused on creating and expressing their creativity!

 

Millipede vs. Centipede Inquiry

What did we find?

 

 

 

During an outdoor education period, some of our students found a small creature in the Kindergarten yard.  There was much debate about what it might be - some students thought we had found a worm, some a centipede, some thought a baby creature because it was so small.  We placed our new friend in a bug catcher, and started to research what it might be.

 

We wanted to share our learning with the school.  We created an inquiry board in the hallway outside of our classroom.  We shared facts we learned about our millipede, plus illustrations created by our students.  The scientists in our class did a wonderful job sharing their learning!  Yeah class!

 

 



Fall Inspired Art

Our artists at work - we traced the outline of their leaf onto the paper, and the students added the veins using black sharpie markers.  The fall colour was added using watercolour paint.  The results - beautiful!

Play Dough Self-Portraits

We provided our students with play dough mats of faces.  Their creativity is clearly shown in the photos of their self-portraits.  Many of our students returned to this centre again and again to create a new self-portrait.
