Winter Hike Day

We promised our students that we would take them for a winter hike on Tuesday morning.  Despite the very snowy weather, we headed out to the woods.  We focused on the signs of winter that we saw in the woods.  Here are some of our beautiful photos for you to enjoy.

 

Concert Art

We hope you enjoyed the tree art we displayed at the Kindergarten/Primary concert.  Our students really had fun making the trees using a variety of re-purposed materials.  We used Mrs. Piurko's packing boxes to create the trees, and recycled sponges for the trunk and star. 

 

Let It Snow!

While we were waiting for white, wonderful snow, we created winter art using black cardstock, white paint and silver glitter.  The art looks amazing on our bulletin board.  And we were thrilled when the real snow finally arrived in Whitby.

 

Reading Buddies with the Grade 2's

Our class partnered with the Grade 2's for reading buddies time.  Our students really enjoyed listening to an exciting variety of books.  We hope to partner again in the future.

 

Bird Inquiry at the Science Table

Birds! Birds! Birds!  We're all about birds in Room 132!  We have researched many kinds of birds, created tally charts of birds we see on the Cornell Lab cameras, recorded our wonderings, learned about migration, learned about a new bird each day, listened to bird songs and learned about feeding birds.  We have filled our science table with so many amazing bird related items, and it is a very popular centre during learning centres time each day.

 

Inspired by Wassily Kandinsky

Our students continue to take their inspiration from master artists from around the world.  Our students enjoyed hearing about Wassily Kandinsky's life and art.  We created art based on his painting entitled, "Several Circles."  It's a two part art project.  The first step is to create the white circles using a variety of round containers.  The second step is to colour the circles with special construction paper crayons.  The end results are amazing!

 

 

Cards for Evelynn

 

Our students have been learning about giving.  In keeping with our discussions, we learned of an opportunity to give to a young girl.  A young girl named Evelynn will be in the hospital during the holidays, and her mother is hoping to cheer her by asking for 1000 Christmas cards for Evelynn!  Each student in our class created a beautiful card for Evelynn, and Mrs. Neville (one of our Grade 1 teachers) will be forwarded our cards to Evelynn.  Our students displayed amazing compassion and caring during our discussion about Evelynn.  Way to go class!
